PDX Song & Piano Nights
PDX Song & Piano Nights are fun, free, socially-oriented small-group events (about 4-6 singers + pianist) held at a private home in the Alberta Arts District of NE Portland. They are open to adult singers who would like to explore new music, get performing experience in front of others, make connections with other music lovers, and/or sing with an accompanist.
Most events are held on the weekends. Each night has a theme based on one or two vocal genres, such as Musical Theater, Contemporary Rock/Pop, Blues/Jazz, or Classical Art Song. You will have the opportunity to “bring and sing” your own piano/vocal sheet music.
Your host and pianist Doug Hanvey has a special fondness for many styles of vocal music. In addition to teaching piano, he has worked as a music director and pianist for numerous theater productions, accompanied voice students at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and composed the score for a full-length musical.
